FUNDING, HELPING, & PROMOTING THE ARTS

Since 1982. Serving Buena Vista Me-Wuk, Ione Miwok, and Jackson Miwuk lands in Amador County, California.

Message From the Executive Director

Dearest Artists and Art Lovers:

On behalf of the students, staff, board, advisors, members, and volunteers: THANK YOU for coming together with us to scaffold The Arts and Arts Education in our rural community!

Since 1982, we have worked with YOU to pay, help, and promote Artists.

We are pleased to inform you that YOUR work pays off!

Amador County Arts Council (Amador Arts) has been awarded another year of funding from the California Arts Council and their State Local Partnership grant program.

Thank YOU for being part of this network of 58 county arts councils throughout the state.

For 44 years, you have paid hundreds of thousands of dollars to artists, helped generations of creatives get into college and launch careers, and promoted the broad impacts of The Arts and Arts Education.

You do this because, like all of us at Amador Arts, you know that The Arts are a pathway to sustainable community cohesion, economic vibrancy, and lifelong learning. You want everyone in Amador County to know the impacts and benefits of creative, art-filled, rural living.

🌟Amador Arts is YOUR BESTIE in sharing that message!🌟

Come visit us during our Drop-In Hours (Tuesday & Thursday from 9 AM to 1 PM and 2 PM to 6 PM) or click here to schedule an appointment to meet with me (it takes less than a minute).

We can’t wait to keep having fun in The Arts with YOU!

Easy ways to be involved:

Passionate about your idea?!

We are too!!! Call/text (209)256-8166, or email info@amadorarts.org.

Please consider this my personal invitation to YOU to come out and visit with me and make community art at one of our upcoming public outreach events, like the Sutter Creek Farmers’ Market on Saturdays from 8:30 to 11:30 AM through October 12.

Thank YOU for being an Arts SUPERHERO.

In community,

Meghan Joy “mojo” O’Keefe,

Executive Director • Teaching Artist • Singer/Songwriter

ON AIR: Amador Arts Podcast is LIVE NOW!

Since 2017, Amador County Arts Council (Amador Arts) has been producing audio shows promoting the impacts, gaps, and triumphs of The Arts and Arts Education in rural spaces like what we now call Amador County. Our newest production is out NOW!

Every Monday, join our host, photographer and filmmaker Kelly Curtis, on the “Give Me My Sticker” podcast. Each episode, Kelly sits down with local artists and art supporters to discuss what Art means in a rural county, what it would be like if they ruled the art scene in Amador, and to simply remind listeners that art is for everyone. Kelly brings a unique experience as someone who claims to know very little about art. She brings humor, candor, and inquiry to the topics on the minds of rural creatives.

September is Suicide Prevention Month

🎨✨ Join the #ArtSparksJoy Campaign! ✨🎨

Help us spread awareness about mental health in rural areas by sharing our latest graphics. Our Art Sparks Joy campaign highlights the mental health challenges of rural living, including isolation, lack of services, and stigma. With suicide rates nearly twice as high in rural areas, community connections are vital.

According to the most recent update from California Public Health, Amador County has the third highest suicide rate and the highest self-harm rate in the state.

Together, we can make a significant impact and brighten lives with the power of art. According to the Americans for the Arts Impact Explorer, 24% of clinical staff say that the arts improve clinical outcomes.

New Arts Council on Horizon!

The Amador County Arts Council (Amador Arts) is proud to announce our mentorship of San Joaquin County (SJC). The State-Local Partnership Mentor Grant is the pathway for SJC to gain a State-Local Partner, also known as an “Arts Council” just like Amador County. The State-Local Partner means your county is part of a state-wide network of arts agencies that advance, serve, and sustain the arts and cultural ecosystem unique to each county. Since 1982, Amador Arts has uplifted, advanced, and financially supported generations of artists living and working in our community. We want SJC to have the same access to these resources!

Grant brings kids to the Crocker

In 2022, Amador County Arts Council (Amador Arts) secured the Arts Exposure Grant from California Arts Council. With support from Amador County Unified School District, Grant writer and Amador Arts Executive Director, Meghan Joy “mojo” O’Keefe applied for funding to send classrooms and families to the Crocker Arts Museum from 2022-2024. This grant has sent hundreds of local youth and their families to the Crocker Art Museum.

Working in partnership with ACUSD administrators since 2018, Amador Arts has advanced local arts education including spearheading the Declaration for Equity in Arts Learning, the Arts Planning Initiative which resulted in a district wide arts plan (adopted in 2020), and the Prop 28 Community Survey of 2024.

To be part of Arts Education advocacy or to join our grant-writing efforts, please get in touch with us at (209)256-8166 or info@amadorarts.org.

Together, we can secure more arts funding for Amador.
