
What is Poetry Out Loud?
Poetry Out Loud (POL) is a national competition and curriculum that teaches literature, public speaking, text analysis, and memorization skills. Open to ALL high school students in Amador County. In Amador County, the competition and free poetry workshops are administered by the Amador County Arts Council in partnership with the California Arts Council. Through Poetry Out Loud we help students master public speaking skills, build self-confidence, and learn about literary history and contemporary life.

Amador POL Championship takes place on the last Sunday of January each year.

Find Your Voice!
Find Your Voice is a six-week workshop series FREE to all Amador County High School students. Amador County High School students have the opportunity to explore written and spoken words. Located at the Historic Sutter Creek Grammar School, students will have guest speakers, teachers, and coaches to help find and strengthen their voices!
Over the six weeks, there will be a variety of teaching artists to help guide them in their craft.

Accomplished poet and teacher, Linda Toren, has a passion for educating through the power of the written and spoken words. With her 25 years of experience in elementary school teaching, and literacy programs, as well as her work at the state level, learn how Linda has dedicated herself to inspiring others to find their voice.
