About Marissa

Born and raised in Calaveras County, Marissa believes art is a significant part of education because it entwines all other subjects and connects our past, present, and future. “I aspire to show students all of the talents and creativity that they hold. I strive for students to value the world and all of the art it has to offer.”

What’s Creative Workforce Development?

Since 2013, Meghan Joy “mojo” O’Keefe has been providing free help to rural creatives. Over the years they have helped rural creatives get into prestigious arts universities, secure employment at infamous theatre companies, launch small businesses, and earn significant grant funds.

Professional & Pre-professional rural creatives turn to O’Keefe for FREE assistance with proof-reading, grant applications, grant reports, contracts, administrative support, letters of recommendation, and beginning bookkeeping.

In 2024, the Amador County Arts Council is advancing this work!

O’Keefe has been certified to teach the Business of Arts curriculum from the Center for Cultural Innovation. This 10-week workshop series is tailored for all kinds of emerging and existing creatives who want to operate a professional arts business.

Our program will launch in 2025. Stay tuned for more information and join our efforts by attending our board meeting on July 16th at 6 PM at the Hotel Sutter.

In The Spotlight

Student Director Alec Lashbrook’s interests lie in fantasy and storytelling. His current project is as a dungeon master for a D&D Pokémon campaign of his creation. Alec personally hand-makes all the figures—forming, heating, and painting them. Alec’s enthusiasm and passion for creating and sharing stories have been a great highlight of our Student Director Program. We are both happy and sad to see him leave as he goes to live on campus and attend Jessup University.

Join us in congratulating Alec!

YOU are invited on July 16th!

6 PM at Hotel Sutter, 53 Main Street, Sutter Creek

Amador County Arts Strategic Plan 2024

Burger Barrel goes to an Artsy Home

In 2021, the Amador County Arts Council hired professional artists to paint wine barrels at our annual fundraiser. One such barrel, by local creative, Greg Traverso made a super-sized impact. Traverso’s iconic line of original burger paintings adorn felled trees throughout Amador County and now one of these freedom-loving burgers has found a home with one fierce art supporter.

On June 30th, the digital, silent auction of the Traverso Burger Barrel was won by public art supporter Kelli Davis. Congratulations to Kelli and may this burger be the harbinger of many more yummy years of fabulous burgers and public art throughout Amador County.
