Student Director Annabel White Off To College
As Annabel White prepares to start college in Colombia this August, we celebrate her remarkable two-year journey with the Amador County Arts Council. Her creativity, dedication, and passion have truly enriched our community.
Reflecting on her time with us, Annabel shares, “I was so happy to be able to contribute and help the community because it was a new experience for me, and I’ve always been a nervous person.” Annabel’s feelings reflect something many young artists face when stepping into the world of arts and creativity: nervousness and uncertainty. The Amador Arts Student Director Program is designed to help students overcome these challenges, build confidence, and energize their pursuit of a career in the arts.
One of Annabel’s fondest memories is working at Amador Arts community events, where she interacted with families and children to create art. Her role as a Student Director helped spark a deeper interest in arts education and led her to apply for the Student Voices Leaders position with CreateCA. This role allowed her to gain the knowledge to communicate directly with the school board, discuss improvements with her principal, and engage with planners deciding on the allocation of Prop 28 funds. Annabel’s work resulted directly in remarkable increases in Arts Education at the Argonaut high campus.
“Being a Student Director assisted in the growth of my confidence when using my voice to discuss and advocate for what I believed in,” Says Annabel. Students’ voices are often underrepresented in our community; having a space and team dedicated to uplifting these voices is crucial for shaping a more inclusive future. We are nurturing the leaders, cultural practitioners, and advocates of tomorrow by empowering young creatives and providing them with a platform to express their ideas.
Annabel plans to stay in touch and update us on her college journey.
