Nature’s Call
Watercolors by Rebecca Ryland and Furniture by Andy Trinkle

The Fine Eye Gallery is excited to present Nature’s Call – an exhibition featuring the
work of watercolor painter, Rebecca Ryland (Davis, CA) and furniture maker, Andy
Trinkle (Glencoe, CA). We’ve invited these two extraordinary artists to show their work
with us as we usher in early spring, the most perfect time of year here in the foothills,
with its glorious, crisp light and the scent of narcissus blossoms in the air. Please join
us on February 2, 2013 for Sutter Creek’s Art Walk, and through mid-March, to catch a
glimpse of their extraordinary reflections of nature.

Rebecca Ryland is an observer, referring to her paintings as field notes. “Painting for
me is a daily practice. It is a notation of the day… a record of experience.” Looking
into one of Ryland’s watercolors is like riding a skiff out into the delta wetlands and
floating amidst the opalescent liquidity of morning’s dewy air. She deftly documents
her impressions of the wilderness, time of day, the seasons and weather with aqueous,
painterly gestures that pour across the page, saturating the surface, and us, with a
lasting impression of her observations.

Andy Trinkle is a natural recycler. With a portable Alaskan sawmill, he’s been
transforming dead and felled trees into fine furniture for more than thirty years. Each
table, chair or bench is carefully considered; honoring the role nature played in the
figure of the wood. Spalted oak, burled walnut, the linear grain of fir, deeply cragged
and fissured redwood, plus a healthy selection scavenged architectural details saved
from local burn piles.. These are the colors on Andy’s palette. He “paints” with them in
unexpected muscular rhythms, skillfully mixing humor, chance and natural grace into
unique and unforgettable heirlooms.

Mother Lode Friends of Music Chamber Music Concert

Sunday, January 27, starting at 2 pm in the Sutter Creek Church of the Nazarene.  As always in this series, there is no admission charge.

Two of the Friends of Music’s favorite performing couples, violinist Corina Stoian and cellist Alexandru Dumitrache, and violinist Joseph Gold and violist Debbie Dare, who have thrilled our audiences separately on so many memorable occasions, will be performing together as a quartet for the first time.  Rather than a single opus, they have chosen four very attractive short works, one from each of the major periods of classical music:  Baroque, Classical, Romantic and Contemporary.  Then in the second half they join pianist Ron Brickman in a performance of the Quintet in A Major for piano and strings of Antonin Dvorak, one of the truly great masterpieces in the chamber music repertoire.
